சகீனாவின் முத்தம் - விவேக் ஷான்பாக்

நாயகன் வெங்கடரமணனின் சொற்களில், கடந்து வந்த வாழ்வின் நிகழ்வுகளை துல்லியமாய் நினைவுபடுத்தியபடி  நிகழ்காலத்துடன் முடிச்சிட்டு விரிகிறது இந்த நாவல். 

வெங்கடரமணனின் மௌடிகத்தின் பன்முகம், -சுயத்தை வெளிப்படுத்த ஒரு வித பயம் - விழுமிய சரிவுகளை அறிந்தும்  சுயநலம் உடையாது தன் ஆளுமையை மாற்றாத பிடிவாதம்- பழைய விஷயங்கள் மீதான பிடிப்பை அறிவின் கர்வமாக புனைந்து கொள்ளுதல் - புரிந்து கொள்வது போல அக்கறையை நீடிப்பது போல உறவுகளை கண்காணிக்கவும் கட்டுப்படுத்தவும் இடையறாது முனைதல் - புதிய விஷயங்கள் மீதான பயத்தை எல்லை மீறலாக புரிந்து கொள்ளுதல், சொற்களின் வழி நீதிகளையும் நிகழ்வுகளின் வழி அநீதிகளையும் கண்டும் காணாதிருத்தல் என்பதான  தோரணைகளில் உறைந்துள்ளது.

ரமணனின் கடிதத்தில் குறுக்கு பாதையில் மொழியின் வளமை பரிணாமத்தை நாம் உணர்வது போல், 

விரித்து வைத்த லாக்கர் பொருட்கள் அனைத்தையும் காண்கையில் வெங்கட்டின் நினைவுக்கு வரும் ரமணனின் ஒற்றைப்பை, குறுக்கு பாதையில் மானுட பண்பாட்டின் வளமை பரிணாமத்தை நமக்கு உணர்த்தும்.

அழைப்பு மணிகள் - வெளியிலிருந்து வரும்  தொடர் அழைப்புகள் நமக்கு சொல்லும் செய்திகள் என்ன ?

வீட்டில் இருப்பது போன்றும் இல்லாதது போன்றும் தோன்றும் அந்தப் பொருள் தான் காணாமல் போனதோ ? நாம் தேடுவது கிடைத்தவுடன் அள்ளி பதுக்குவோமா இல்லை பகிர்ந்தளிப்போமா ? 

புத்துயிர்ப்பு நாவலின் நாயகனையும் வெங்கட்ரமணனையும் இணைத்து வாசிக்க வாய்ப்புள்ளது.

Nekhlyudov undertook an ambitious tumultous  journey between reading and real life experiences to arrive at possible method of what to do with one's convictions. He took a Gentle Righteous approach, travelling from one institution to the other, constantly challenging himself to maintain grace and decorum and shed selfishness. Holding on to the fervour of "Doing good to others and changing things" always pointing the action finger on himself he goes on a pursuading spree to appeal to the goodness of everyone he met to make them do good about things within their power.

Novel can be viewed as a stunning series of interviews and Character Arcs across various sections of people. These interviews are triggerred in the beginning by a sense of guilt but what carried them through out is the fervour to do what is right and what exactly needs to be done as per His Masters' Will. Nekhlyudov clearly understood this only at the end, but far earlier he had acted so guided by his personal conviction.
