One Hundred years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez

 

It all began as a journey to unknown pastures ending with a dystopian progeny wondering what these four hundred pages of pulsating prose indicate , a tumultuous running of time only to embrace every possible thought of every possible character that passed through the Buendia s house telling us about the life and reflections of members of a Family across hundred years and in that attempt shines a scorching beam on every possible way of living - Silent Mumbling to Oneself reading the pages already known and writing the pages already written, Step out with a Spear or a Gun to establish Justice and Farce in equal measure to start unstoppable wars, To imagine your life s ambition as a big pail to save everything you can for those around you only to be squandered by the very same in known and unknown ways but still have the grace to build everything again as many times as if nothing happened, To enjoy the gift of Providence as and when it is available without any anxiety of future and only to see it rain for four years and do not rain for another ten develop a sense of patience to keep telling it cannot go on like this for ever, To make love as if there is no tomorrow To live like death is around the corner for instead of the debilitation about that everlasting animal we have our virolous passions continuosly egging as if we're are going to live for ever only to be buried under sands of time completely forgotten and eaten by insects nevertheless seed of passion finds its way up through creaky earth like a lizard, To Live through memories of living and the dead things happened historical unhistorical illusive farcical all losing its meaning at the sight of dystopian town for its written already in the unread scriptures that a piece of earth in Macondo remain as is but for a short sojourn of Buendians. A Lot of people came and went Lives lost in cock fights wars alike , people lived in opulence and penury alike clutching their nameless figurless determination and Idiocy, for Time a ruffian bullied his way into the lores of Macondo. 

எண்கோண மனிதன் - யுவன் சந்திரசேகர்

பரிச்சயம்

குள்ள சித்தன் சரித்திரம் மற்றும் கனலி இதழில் வெளியான "அடையாளம்" சிறுகதையும் யுவன் அவர்கள் பெயர் கூறியவுடன் என் நினைவுக்கு வருவது. குள்ள சித்தன் சரித்திரம் வாசித்து ஆண்டுகள் பல ஆகிவிட்டன. அடையாளம் தற்போது வாசித்ததால் அல்ல கதையின் சம்பவங்களின் வீச்சு இன்றளவும் நினைவில் நிற்கும் விதமாக அமைந்திருப்பது. யாவரும் பத்தாண்டு விழாவில் சமகால எழுத்தாளர்களின் எழுத்தில் கூர்மை குறைந்து வருவது குறித்து யுவன் கூறத் தொடங்கி முழுமையாக கூறுவதற்கு முன் உரையை முடித்தார். விகடனில் டிசம்பர் முடிவில் ஒரு பேட்டி புகைப்படம் கண்டு பேட்டியை படிக்காமல் வழக்கம் போல் ஒரு scroll, புதிய நாவல் குறித்து எதிர்பார்ப்பை குறித்து கூறியிருந்தார். பரிசல் புத்தக கடையில் அற்புதமான அட்டையுடன் எண்கோண மனிதன் புத்தகம் கண்ட போது வாங்காமல் இருக்க முடியவில்லை. யுவன் அவர்களை வாசித்து நாளாகி இருந்தது. எல்லாம் அமைய வாசித்தும் முடித்தது மகிழ்ச்சி.ஏனினில் மோஸ்தருக்கும் ஆசைக்கும் வாங்கிய புத்தகங்கள் அநேகம். அவற்றையும் படிக்க வேண்டும். 

எண்கோண மனிதன் 

தேடப்படுபவர் - இவரும் வேறொன்றை தேடுபவர் , தேடுபவர், தேடுபவர் கூறியதை தொகுத்தவர் - இவரும் ஒரு வகையில் தேடுபவர் , இம்மூன்று ஆளுமைகளை மையமாக கொண்டு தேடப்படுபவர் குறித்த சித்திரம் மெல்ல எழும் துப்பறியும் கதையை போன்ற ஆனால் அதனினும் ஆழமான பூடகமான முழுமையான கதையாக விரிகிறது எண்கோண மனிதன். தேடப்படுபவர் குறித்த நிகழ்வுகளை மனப்பதிவுகளை அன்சாரி தொடங்கி விசாலாட்சிச் சித்தி வரை துணை கதாப்பாத்திரங்கள் கூறக் கூற நாவல் முடிகிறது. அடுத்தடுத்த அத்தியாயங்களில் இக்கதப்பாத்திரங்கள் என்ன கூறத் போகிறார்கள் என்கிற எதிர்பார்ப்பும் சுவாரஸ்யமுமே நாவலை வாசிப்பதற்கு தொடர் உந்துதலாக இருக்கிறது.  தேடுபவர் தொகுத்தவர் பின்னொடு நாமும் கால ஊஞ்சலில் முன்னும் பின்னும் பயணிக்கிறோம். 

வாசிப்பு 

நாவலை வாசிக்கையில் உட்கிடக்கையாய்  தோன்றிய விஷயங்கள்- தேடலின் இயல்புகள், தப்பித்தல் மற்றும் கச்சிதமும் வரலாறும் 

தேடலின் இயல்புகள் 

கலைத்தேடல் என்று வைத்தோமானால் தேடுபவர் தேடப்படுபவர் இருவருமே தேடல் பயணத்தில் அமைந்திருந்தாலும் இருவருக்கும் இடையே வேறுபாடு உள்ளதா என்னும் கேள்வி, இயல்பிலேயே ஒரு கலை ஆளுமையாக உள்ளவனும் , கலையின் பால் ஈர்க்கப்பட்ட தன்மையான பாமரனுக்கும் என்ன வித்தியாசம் , அவர்கள் இருவரின் தேடலும் வெளிப்பார்வையில் ஒன்று போல் இருந்தாலும் ஒன்று இல்லை என்று நாவலை வாசிக்கையில் தோன்றியது. கடலை காணாதவர்கள்  மத்தியில், கடலில் குளிப்பவனுக்கும் கடலில் முழுகி மறைபவனுக்கும் வித்தியாசம் தெரியுமா என்ன ? சில நேரங்களில் தேடுபவன் கரையில் நின்று கால் நனைப்பதோடு சரி, சம்பந்தமூர்த்தி மாமாவும் தொகுக்கும் கிருஷ்ணனும் கடலின்  எந்த எல்லையில் இருக்கிறார்கள் ? இருவரின் தேடலின் முடிவு எவ்வாறாக அமைந்திருக்கிறது என்பதே இந்நாவலின் முக்கியமான உட்கிடக்கை. 

தப்பித்தல் - Evasion (வாசிப்பவனுக்காக)

காலக்கண்ணடி புத்தகத்தில் இது குறித்து வாசித்ததுமே அதன் அர்த்த அனர்த்தத்தில் மனம் அல்லாடுகிறது. நிகர் வாழ்வு போதாமல் இருக்கையில் அல்லது நிகர் வாழ்வு சலித்து தேடி தப்பித்து  உள்நுழைபவன் அதே தளத்தில் வேறொரு பரிணாமத்தில் தேடலில் இருப்பவன் கையைப் பற்றுகிறான். இருவேறு உலகில் இருப்பினும் சேர்ந்தே தட்டாமலை ஆடுவது போல் இருக்கும் தோற்றம். சம்பந்தம் மூர்த்தி அவர்களின் தப்பித்தலின் ரிஷி மூலம் குறித்த மெல்லிய திறப்பு நாவலின் ஒரே இடத்தில் மட்டும் வருகிறது. சோமன் தப்பி தப்பி சென்ற இடங்களை பின் தொடர்ந்து செல்லும் சம்பந்தம் சோமனை பற்றி மேலும் மேலும் அறிந்து கொள்கையில் எவ்வளவு தூரம் இது சம்பந்தம் அவர்களின் தேடலுக்கு உறுதுணையாக இருக்கிறது என்பதே நாவலின் மற்றுமொரு முக்கியமான தளம். 

கச்சிதமும் வரலாறும் 

நாவலை கச்சித்தப்படுத்த முயற்சி செய்தது போன்றும் அவ்வாறு செய்யாத இடங்களை குறித்தும் யுவன் அவர்களே பதிவு செய்திருக்கிறார். குறிப்பாக நாவலின் நிகழ்வுகளின் கால நிர்ணயம் குறித்த அவரது பிரயத்தனம் வாசகனுடன் சிறிய விளையாட்டை விளையாடுகிறது. நினைவுகளின் தொகுப்பு விளையாட்டில் வாசகன் தேர்ந்தெடுக்க வேண்டியது எதை ? என்றோ நடந்த நிகழ்வுகளின் துல்லியமான இன்றைய சித்திரத்தையா அல்லது  அந்நிகழ்வுகளின் கச்சிதமான வரிசைக் கிரமத்தையா ? வரிசை கிரமும் புனைவாக இருக்க வாய்ப்புள்ளவை தானே ? புனைவில் உண்மையே இல்லாது போக வாய்ப்பில்லை இல்லையா ? காலம் தாண்டி உட்பொருள், வடிவம் இவற்றின் கச்சிதம் நவீன நாவல்கள் தானாக தங்கள் தலையில் என்றோ ஏற்றிக் கொண்ட விஷயங்கள், இந்நாவல் அந்த வகையிலும் கொஞ்சம் இறுக்கம் தவிர்த்து அதே நேரத்தில் அலைபாயாது ஒரு தேடலின் கதையை தொகுத்திருக்கிறது.

Marcovaldo - Italo Calvino

Collection of twenty short stories on Urbanisation of Mind, Relations and Surrounding physical space. Stories are seen through eyes of Marcovaldo, a considerate simple individual. His Predicaments Curiosities form the basis of all the Plots, through these plots subtexts and overall arc we could try to make sense of what complex changes have swept us in this urbanisation juggernaut. Stories set in a unnamed City in Northern Italy circa 1950s 60s . Published in 1963 in Italian and in English in 1983.

What to look for in a City 

We are in 2020s, Its any ones guess what we look at,  when we look at the city roads and city scapes. But our hero Marcovaldo has eyes set only on living or Natural things you could say. Neon Signs, bill boards cannot move him,Sky scrapers at once irritate him. His pursuits on plants, animals, birds, fishes and insects lead him into unforseen situations evoking a sad and funny picture of way things turn out for Marco. These pursuits also provides us a glimpse of how our cities have turned out to be good or bad. Some of the plots strech the horizon entering surrealist zones of delightful reading.

What we mean when we mean City

Reading these stories one might encounter a pertinent question on for whom the cities are built for ? and at what pace and cost ? Apart from the political dimension of urbanisation is there a secret contest between Man and Nature going on ? About which we still have to uncover the dynamics further. what are those yearnings to be with the hills, to be in the beaches,  to be around the forests ,but we still continue to live in the midst of machine Lights & machine sounds most of the time. These Stories from Calvino are no doubt political in nature too as it attempts to portray working class vs Elite in few of these stories. 

Pursuit in a maze

Marco continues to live in the city despite plethora of subtle anxieties that await him in every turn. His attempt to "sleep in a park in the night "or his considerate affection towards a rabbit turns out to be dangerous to the community. In " wrong stop" Story he gets completely lost in fog only to land himself in an incredulous place. Marcovaldo sometimes is like that rabbit who despite knowing the perilous effects of accepting a dangling carrot has no other choice but to nibble at it to keep himself afloat. He moves around the city by Walk or in his bike amusing himself in this struggle called Life. 

Men Without Women - Haruki Murakami

Collection of 7 Short Stories, Released in 2014 in Japanese and Published in English in 2017 

In Line with the Book Title , all Stories told mostly from Men s perspective giving us a chance to ruminate on three things , Solitude, Man & Woman.

This is not a book review but a jostling attempt to make converged reading of all the stories. 

Solitude

I have often wondered about the difference between Solitude present in Dostoevsky Novels and the Solitude present in Murakami s Novels - If one exaggerates Dostoyevsky  s Solitude emerges from a suffering , alienated, misunderstanding and Silence - In Murakami s world Solitude often emerges after a person had done what is required to be done by him like he has ticked all the boxes, offended no one , helpful understanding, it emerges from sort of plateaued achievement financially mentally and Physically - this type of Solitude has become sort of hallmark in Murakami s Stories - this story collection too reflects that. Infact this is type of Prototype Solitude can refer to any person who has undertaken a City Life -  This type of Solitude remains the missing piece of  puzzle in how material success has managed to fulfil all but few missing parts to lead a life in peaceful manner.

Men

Men in these murakami s stories are finite, Murakami through his artistic choice limits Man to five six standard features - How well built, His Face ,His Dress , His Work or how he earns money, how is his sex life, what is his passtime or hobbies any other interests and moves to the Plot which invariably turns out to be a question on his partner Choices / absence / ruminations - 

Men through out remain mute spectators of activities happening around them - you can exaggerate and say they have almost become inactive partners in most of the relationships - If you take example from above,  how finite a Man s world is, we can further conclude a Man is satiated if above needs like Food , Sex and Idle Time are taken care - they no longer seek to be active or interested in other things - Even while reacting to  Cheating done by his partners they evoke a very moderate pacifying withdrawing reactions - this singular aspect is very intriguing and across all Stories we could see this resignation - Man has given up on defining aspects of relationships but he is willing to perform his roles as a dutiful as a list of activities - Infact in cases where his partners cheat , instead of rageful man we have a inquisitive man who wants to know his shortcomings which made his partner cheat - This Singular repeated depiction of  Resigned Man calls our renewed attention to Women s world 

Women 

Right from First Story "Drive my Car" , we know Women will drive the stories ahead ,but what we are not prepared for is the Women s choices are not reactions to Men s Moves but significantly independent moves for which Men seem ill prepared or resigned to without any dramatic responses. To the paranoidal extent let me anecdotally quote  "In two centuries down the line Men could be in cages, summoned by Women only  for selective needs and be put back in cages again" Said Tarun Tejpal , during Writer Charu nivedita s Book release Function. Though Women have started their independent sojourn their dilemma is well captured in Story " Yesterday" where two men , one moving from Province to City trying to hide his past , other born in city taking interest in specific Province and chosing a life based on that appear as  possible Life choices before her, In "Samsa in Love", we have Murakami egging us to see the deadbeat freudian connection between male genital and the armed warfare. As the story ends world is awaiting Samsa to learn things about World in fresh Light, More  from a Woman he loves -Even his genitals freshly indicate On his Love Feelings not the urge to Fuck - Genitals not seen as tool to love but as a sensory organ to choose the one to Love talk and more.

குமரித்துறைவி - ஜெயமோகன்

"குமரித்துறைவி" ஒரு நிறைவான வாசிப்பு அனுபவமாக இருந்தது. கனவின் சொல்லைச் சுமந்த உதயனின் முதல் பயணம் முதல் செயலின் முழு சொரூபத்தை கண்டு உதயன் இறுதியில் திரும்பும் வரையிலான நிகழ் அனுபவம் மிகவும் நெகிழ்வாக இருந்த வாசிப்பு அனுபவம். 

நாவலின் பேசுபொருள் புதிதில்லை ஆயினும் நாவலில் இப்பேசுபொருள் அமைந்துள்ள விதம் அதன் நிகழ்த்துத்தன்மை முற்றிலும் புதியது. ஒரு நவீன கால நாவலில்,ஆண்டாண்டுகளாக நடைபெற்று வரும் ஒரு விஷயம் அதன் அழகியல் சாரத்தை இழக்காது அமைவது முற்றிலும் புதியது. பெருநாவல்கள் குடும்ப வரலாறுகளையும் காலத்தின் ஏற்ற இறக்கங்களையும் பதிவு செய்யும். ஓரளவு சிறிய நாவல்கள் தலைமை கதாப்பாத்திரத்தின் தனிப்பட்ட லட்சியம் நோக்கிய பயணத்தினை பெரும்பாலும் பதிவு செய்யும். மிக அரிதாகவே ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட தனிப்பட்ட அனுபவத்தின் சாரமாக நாவல்கள் அமைந்திருக்கின்றன. ஆனால் குமரித்துறைவியில் இடம் பெற்றிருக்கும் அனுபவம் தனிப்பட்டது மட்டும் அல்ல. பெரும் திரளான மக்களின் பொதுவான அனுபவத்தை அதன் உணர்ச்சி பெருக்கான அழகியலோடு முன்வைக்கிறது குமரித்துறைவி. நாவல் வாசிக்கையில் சொற்களின் வலிமையையும் தாண்டி அந்த நிகழ்வுக்காக மட்டும் கண்ணீர் சொறிகையில் அப்பெரும் திரளில் நானும் ஒருவன் என்று உணர வைத்தது. 

நவீன காலத்தில் மோஸ்தராக உள்ள தத்துவ சொல் விளையாட்டுகளுக்கும் Ism சார்ந்த அறிவு செயல்பாட்டுகளுக்கும் சிக்காது நிகழும் பேரனுபவம் இது. நிகழும் அனுபவத்தை அளிக்க வல்ல சினிமா போன்ற கூட்டுக்கலை, பொது அனுபவத்திலிருந்து உணர்ந்து திரண்ட தனிப்பட்ட கலைஞர்களின் நிகழ்த்துக்கலை இவை இரண்டும் ஏற்படுத்தும் மனோ அனுபவங்களை எளிதில் மிஞ்ச வல்ல நிகழ்த்து அம்சமாக இத்திருக்கல்யாணம் அமைந்திருக்கிறது, ஆருத்ரா நடனங்களும் சூரசம்ஹாரம் நினைவுக்கு வருகின்றன. இந்த அனுபவம் ஒரு நவீன நாவலில் அமைகையில் வாசகன் பெறுவது என்ன ? .கடந்த காலத்தை கடைந்தெடுக்கையில், திரண்டு வரும் மங்கலம் மட்டும் நினைவில் நிற்கும் வகையில், அமைந்த இந்த நிகழ்த்து அனுபவம், காலத்தை அதன் உயரிய பொருளில் அர்த்தம் கொள்ள வைப்பது தான் நாவலின் வாசகன் பெறும் முக்கியமான விஷயம், அக்காலத்தின் போர்களுக்கும், உள்பூசல்களுக்கும், வாரிசு சண்டைகளுக்கும் இன்றைய மதிப்பு என்பது சொற்பம்., தகவல் அறிவு மாத்திரமே. நாவலின் பேசு பொருள் அதன் நிகழ்த்து அனுபவம் எவ்வாறு ஒட்டு மொத்த பிரபஞ்சத்தின் இயக்கத்தை அலகிலா விளையாட்டை நாம் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் நினைவுபடுத்திக் கொள்ள வாய்ப்பாக அமைகிறது எனக் கூறுகிறது. இதையே உதயன் வழி நாம் காண்கிறோம். நம் ஒட்டு மொத்த செயல்திறனையும் குறைவிலாது அளித்து, சீர் முதல் உணவு வரையிலான அத்தனை நிரல்களையும் நிரப்பி , தேடித்தேடி குறைகளை களைந்து நாம் என உணர்ந்து நிற்கையில் நாம் முற்றிலும் எதிர்பாராத ஒரு நிகழ்வு நம் ஆணவத்தை குலைப்பதை உதயன் வழி காண்கிறோம். நாவலின் முடிவு பெரியதொரு சக்தியின் சின்ன கண் சிமிட்டல் போல அமைந்துள்ளது.
